Procedure

1. Gather all documents you will need to present or submit in order to obtain a permanent residence card.
2. Application for a permanent residence must be made in two copies and submited to the Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security or immigration offices under provincial or municipal police departments.
3. Within five days after receiving the notice from the Immigration Department, the provincial or municipal police departments shall grant residence card which will be valid for three years.

Required Documents

1. Two copies of the applicants judicial record endorsed by the competent authority of the country which the applicant is a citizen or currently a permanent resident;
2. The diplomatic note of the competent body of the country of which the applicant is a citizen, asking for Vietnams permission of the applicants permanent residence in Vietnam;
3. Marriage certificate
4. Two copies of the passport;
5. Photo of the applicant

Eligibility

Foreigners temporarily residing in Vietnam, whose wife, husband, children or parents are Vietnamese permanent residents, are allowed to reside in the country.
