Uruguay - Register a Death
ProcedureEdit
- To register, go to the Ministry of Public Health.
- Submit your application along with all other required documents.
Required DocumentsEdit
Photocopies of death certificates which state medical cause it will only be delivered through presentation of the death certificate plus proof of parentage documentation.
Documentation proving relation to the deceased:
- In case of death of parents: Birth Certificate of the child
- In case of death of children: Birth certificate of the deceased
- In case of death of spouse: Marriage Certificate
For all other cases, a power of attorney must be submitted, even funeral service companies or insurance agencies.

EligibilityEdit
Individuals who may report death:
- The undersigned physician.
- The health service in charge of the deceased
- The relatives to the fourth degree of consanguinity.
- Common law partners (5 years)
- Beneficiaries of life insurance of the deceased.

Registration of Death is free.

Processing TimeEdit
Delivery of the certificate is on time as long as the Civil Registry is in possession of the said death report. Please be informed that deaths that occurred in a given month are not available until after the 20th of the following month. This does not include electronic certificates that can be found and available online the day after the death occurred. It it advisable that you contact or email the ministry for more information.

Notices are submitted to the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), where the death certificate may be obtained in paper or mail form.
