The Veterinary Act 1958 allows for temporary registration of foreign Veterinary Surgeons under restrictions.
Apply In-Person

  1. To register as a Temporary registration as a foreign Veterinary Surgeons the applicant has to contact/visit the Uganda Veterinary Board offices to make the application.
  2. Here you will be issued with an application which you have to fill and submit.
  3. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful. A list of these documents can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page or at UVB registration requirements page.
  4. Submit the completed application form and required documents.
  5. Proceed to pay the appropriate fees and submit the payment receipt. The amount of fees to be paid can be found under the "Fees" section of this page or at UVB registration fees page.
  6. The Board shall approve the application in accordance with the criteria set out under Veterinary Act.
  7. The Board shall, on approval of the application, issue the applicant with a temporary registration certificate.
  8. On Completion of this process, the applicant will receive the written confirmation within seven (7) days after the Board's approval.
  9. A foreign veterinary surgeon may practice if he/she is issued with an annual practicing license.

  • For one to be registered as a Temporary Foreign Veterinary Surgeon, the following requirements must be met:-
  1. Academic certificates (Not result slip)
  2. Professional certificates
  3. National Identity Card/Passport
  4. Passport size photograph
  5. Registration document from professional association.
  6. A Filled in Application form for registration.
  7. Paid application fee receipt.

EligibilityEdit

A foreigner who is qualified as a veterinary surgeon in their home country and wishes to practice in Uganda as volunteer for non-profit organizations must be recognized by the Uganda Veterinary Board. The applicant must be going to provide veterinary services in undeserved areas and should not go into private practice.

FeesEdit

The current application fee is set at USD $150.

ValidityEdit

The registration validity is forever, however one has to renew the practice license fees annually.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • One needs to be registered as veterinary surgeon to be able to practice in Uganda.
  • Any person who practices veterinary medicine or surgery without having been registered by The Board commits an offence and shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months, or to both.
