Uganda - Renewal of Registration Certificates of both Uganda and Foreign NGOs

ProcedureEdit

  1. To apply for a Renewal registration certificate for Uganda or Foreign NGO, the applicant has to contact the National Bureau for NGO offices in person and submit his/her request renewal letter to the secretariat.
  2. Here you will be given an application form ‘A’ to fill and submit. This form A should be duly completed and signed by at least two top officials of the organization.
  3. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful. These documents include the following.
    • A recommendation letter from the Resident District Commissioner from the area they were operating in to confirm their operations.
    • Annual Report.
    • Financial Report (Audited Accounts).
    • Minutes of Annual General Meeting, plus the attendance signed by all people present.
    • A Work Plan and an itemized budget.
  4. You should then proceed to pay the Renewal fees and submit the receipt to the National Bureau for NGO offices.
  5. On Completion of this process, you will receive feedback from the secretariat of National Bureau of NGO within 30 days. The issuance officer will give you a claim slip/stub that states when you can claim your renewal certificate.

EligibilityEdit

Foreign and indigenous Ugandan that established non-government organisation (NGO) who want to renew their organizations in Uganda are eligible.

FeesEdit

  • Renewal fee of USD$50. (Foreigners)
  • Renewal fee : 40,000 Ugshs. (Ugandan)


ValidityEdit

Renewal certificate of registration shall be issued in the first instance, for a period of 3 years from the date of issue of the certificate; assuming that the NGO fulfils the renewal requirements.

NGOs may not extend their operations to new areas unless they have received a recommendation from the National Bureau for NGOs through the District NGO monitoring committee(DNMC) of that area.

Information which might helpEdit

  • An organisation shall not be registered or renewed under this following conditions—
  1. where the objectives of the organisation as specified in its constitution are in contravention of the laws of Uganda;
  2. Where the application for renewal does not comply with the requirements of the Bureau Act.
  3. Where the applicant has given false or misleading information in any material particular.
  4. Where the Bureau refuses to fullfil the set procedure for renewal an organisation under sub section (1), the Bureau shall inform the applicant in writing of the reasons for the refusal for renewal within thirty days.

The Bureau may revoke the permit of an organisation if

  1. the organisation does not operate in accordance with its constitution;
  2. the organisation contravenes any of the conditions or directions specified in the permit.
  3. Before the Bureau revokes a permit under this section, it shall within thirty days from the date of notice in writing request the holder of the permit to show cause why the permit should not be revoked.
  4. Where the Bureau revokes a permit under this section, it shall inform, in writing, the holder of the permit of the reason why the permit has been revoked.
  5. Where the Bureau revokes a permit of an organisation under this section, the organisation shall, subject to the conditions for grant of a permit under this Act, be allowed to re-apply for a permit.
