Procedure

1. Registration for conveyance of meat can be obtained from Municipal Council or Division/City Authority near your Location.
   • A person shall not convey any meat, intended for sale as food for human consumption, in any vehicle unless the Council has in writing approved the vehicle for that purpose.
2. Before you request for registration certificate first register with the Council as an authorized transporter of meat as described by the Municipal council.
3. Any person who wishes to convey Meat transportation shall meet the following conditions:
   • The applicant should make sure he/she has registered with the council as an authorized meat transporter of meat.
   • The Vehicle to be used MUST be clean and covered to avoid any apparatus likely to come into contact with the meat.
   • Not to permit any person or any live animal, birds or any material or thing to be conveyed in the body of the Vehicle together with the meat.
   • An authorized transporter of meat, for public consumption, shall always bear the recognized label of the Council known as the Kampala City Meat Transporter (KCMT).
4. After fulfilling the conditions above proceed to pick and fill the form applying to register as Meat transporter.
5. Pay the prescribed fee as prescribed by the municipal council or Division/City Authority
6. Submit the dully filled in form attached with pay slip and other required documents as prescribed by the Council to the Council Officer in charge of the area. The health inspector office whose officers shall carryout inspection of your Vehicle before the registration certificate is issued.
7. Collect your Conveyance of meat certificate from Town clerk of the Municipality or Division/City Authority where your application was submitted within two days from the date the application was received at municipality in case there is no rejection.
8. The Council may refuse to approve any vehicle which is not covered, and which has no proper provision for preventing the meat from getting contaminated.
9. The Council may reject the application, if it is of the opinion that any vehicle approved is not being maintained in a satisfactory condition, the Council may direct that the vehicle be discontinued from conveying meat.

Required Documents

• Applicant should obtain Clearance from the Municipality or Division/City Authority
• Vehicle original certificate of registration (Applicant names)
• certificate of incorporation for a (Company)
• Applicant should obtain clearance from Uganda meat dealers Association.
• Original municipality receipt for the previous year indicating existing business
• Original trading License for the previous year for already existing business.
• Health inspection certificate.
• Medical Certificates of the driver.

Eligibility

All persons interested in Transporting Meat are Eligible provide they meet the requirements of the Ministry of Agriculture Animal industries and Fisheries and Council requirements.

Fees

The Municipal Council shall determine the fees payable by meat transporters or birds from time to time.

• Names, Physical and Postal Address of Applicant
• Legal Status of the Applicant
• List and Particulars of Shareholders;
• Certificate of Registration,
• Certificate of Incorporation,
• Memorandum and Articles of Association
• Deed of Partnership,
• Deed of Trust, as applicable
• Information if the Driver has ever been convicted of a criminal offence in Uganda or in any other country.
• List and Particulars of Directors.
• information if you have ever acquired a Licence and state the nature of the Licence, date issued and the Licence number

Information which might help

A person engaged in the handling or transportation of meat shall—

1. • Not permit any part of the meat to come into contact with the ground.
   • Take all precautions necessary to prevent the exposure of meat to contamination.
   • An employer of any person engaged in the handling or transporting of meat shall cause the person when handling or transporting meat, to wear a clean and washable head covering and an overall.
   • Any authorized officer may at any time inspect any vehicle used for carrying meat to ascertain whether the provisions of this Ordinance are being complied with.
