Uganda - Obtain Sports Fishing Licence (permit)
ProcedureEdit
- To apply for the procedure you will need to send a written application to the Chief fisheries officer before completing an application form from the ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and fisheries.
- Fill the application form and submit it to the Department of Fisheries and Natural Resources at the Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and Fisheries.
- Pay the application fees. Note that Payments can be made by cash, cheque or credit cards i.e. Visa or MasterCard and if you are paying by cheque please make payment to the Accountant General.
- Upon receiving the payment and application, the department will process your application accordingly and give you feedback via the contacts you provided in your application.
- The department will verify your application and approve it for licensing.
- Then the license will be processed and issued to you.

EligibilityEdit
Applicant to be eligible should be engaging in Sports fishing activities in order to be issued with this licence but must be 18 years and above.
FeesEdit
- Application fee: 10,000 Ugshs.
- Licence Fee: Permit 150,000Ugshs.
- Renewal fee: 150,000 Ugshs.
ValidityEdit
The duration of the permit is determined by the applicant. A permit can either be issued on a per trip basis or an annual basis but usually valid for 1 year.

- When applying for a Sport Fishing Licence, both Customs and Immigration formalities must be completed before the licence can be issued.
- Licences can be obtained from the Uganda Customs Officer at the time of entry or from the Department of Marine Resources after entry.

Purpose of this permit is to Control recreational activities most especially sport fishing and tourism activities in the water bodies.

- A Sport Fishing Permit is a licence granted to authorize foreign-owned vessels to be engaged in sport fishing exercises while in Ugandan waters. This procedure provides you information about how to obtain the said permit.
- Uganda also has Lakes like George, Edward, Albert and Kyoga. All these water bodies present great opportunities for sport fishing.
- Uganda has over 350 species of fish. The two major species caught for commercial purposes are the Tilapia and Nile Perch. The other types of fish are the Protoperus, Rastrinabola, lung fish and cat fish.
- Sport fishing has gained prominence in Uganda since the early 90’s and is among the top things to do in Uganda.
- Sport fishing is perfect for family bonding or getting together as a group of friends. One does not need to have any prior experience fishing in order to take part in this sport.
