Uganda - Obtain Fishing Vessel Registration Number.

ProcedureEdit

Apply in person.

  1. Visit the Ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and fisheries department of fisheries resources , licences office with all the required documents and the recommended fee
  2. Approach the services desk and request for an assessment form for the application of a new fishing vessel’s registration number plate.
  3. Fill in the application form accurately and submit it to the attending official, whom will verify them, upon which will issue you with a payment receipt.
  4. Head to any designated bank with the payment receipt (the bank will issue you a bank account) and make the recommended application fees upon which you will be issued with a bank receipt slip, head back to the licensing office with the bank receipt slip
  5. If all the information are in order, you will be issued with a new fishing vessel registered number within one working day.
  6. The Chief Fisheries Officer or an authorized licensing officer shall allocate to every Lake or Water body a letter or letters and a colour which he or she thinks suitable for purposes of issuing a new fishing vessel registration number.
  7. The registered number of a fishing Vessel Identification Plate shall be in the following form
    • shall consist of the appropriate letter or letters allocated under sub rule (1), together with a serial number assigned by the officer who issues the fishing vessel licence ;
    • shall be clearly displayed in the appropriate colour allocated on each side of the vessel's bow; and
    • Shall not be wholly or partially covered or obscured.
  8. Every letter or figure used in displaying a fishing vessel's registered number for the purpose of the ordinance of the rule shall be at least twelve inches high and shall be composed of strokes at least two inches wide.

Note:Background, number and colour depends on the water body and in case of a lost, stolen or damaged fishing vessel identification plate number you will be asked to go to the number manufacturing and make the duplicate number.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Application form should be in duplicate signed and stamped if the applicant is non-individual
  • Police report in case the plate was stolen or lost and if damage you will surrender the damage plate
  • A newspaper advert in case the plate were lost (optional)
  • Laboratory report from the CID headquarters in case both plates were lost (optional)
  • Copy of the identification number of the applicant
  • Payment slip for the duplicate fees

All Fishing Vessels in Uganda which are registered in Uganda by the Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and fisheries are eligible for for new number plate.

Required InformationEdit

  • Full name of the owner of the fishing vessel
  • Detail about the Fishing Vessel (mode, make, colour etc.)
  • The length of the vessel
  • Fish species to be fished
  • waters the vessel will operate in.
  • National identification card of the owner (ID card)
  • Taxation identification card (TIN)
  • a licence to fish for sea fish that will be sold.
  • Safety Certificate (for vessels over 15 metres)
  • International Tonnage Certificate (ITC)if the vessel is over 15 Metres.
  • information on Registration fees.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • It is mandatory requirement for all Uganda fishing Vessel to be registered.
  • Valid registration book (logbook) proves ownership of a Fishing Vessel.

Information which might helpEdit

A Fishing Vessel identification plate shall bear the following specification-

  • metallic in nature and non-corrodible when in contact with water.
  • shape; Rectangular in shape; 15” x 5”;
  • numbers should be embossed;
  • security seal and fastening mechanism to avoid easy removal;
  • emblem and flag of Uganda;
  • colour combinations and serial numbers (Colours should be water resistant).


Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

  • The purpose of the vessel Registration system is to control Uganda fishing opportunities. To restrict the size of Uganda fishing fleet,if no new fishing vessel registration are issued, this means there will be less active fishing vessels.
