ProcedureEdit

  1. A dry and live fish Movement permit can be obtained from the directorate of fisheries of the Area of origin or from the council or from authorized officer at the Ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and Fisheries.
    • Where a person desires to bring any fish from outside the City to a fish market or a fish landing site within the Council’s area of jurisdiction, he or she shall first obtain a Fish Movement permit from the relevant authority of the area of origin of the fish or from the Council or from an authorized officer, authorizing such person to do so.
    • A person shall not, for purposes of trade, move fish or fish products from one place to another unless:
      • he or she is in possession of a valid fish movement permit issued by an authorized officer; or
      • he or she is a licensed fisherman; or
      • he or she is a fish farmer.
  2. Fill up the appropriate application form 7 as described by the council or an Authorized officer or Ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and fisheries. The Council or an authorized officer to whom an application is made may require the applicant to produce the fish at a suitable place to be examined as fish fit for human consumption or to ensure that the fish or fish products were properly handled before movement is done.
    • After examining the fish products and they are fit for human consumption proceed to pay the prescribed fee.
  3. The Council or an authorized officer before issuing the movement permit to the applicant, may require the applicant to prove that fish products intended for sale to the public as food for human consumption are in a vehicle fit for the purpose of conveying fish. The vehicle has to be approved in writing by the Council to be fit for the purpose of conveying fish.
  4. The Council shall not approve a motor vehicle, which is not covered and does not have proper provision for preventing the fish from getting exposed to contamination.
  5. An authorized officer may at any time inspect any Local Governments vehicle used for carrying fish to ensure compliance with the provisions of this Ordinance.
  6. If all have been successfully verified submit a dully filled in form and attached all the required documents with proof of payment slip to the council Officer in charge of the fisheries.
  7. Pick your Dry and Live Fish Movement Permit from where your application was submitted within 3 days from the date the application was received at council in case there is no rejection.
  8. The holder of a fish movement permit shall cause the permit to be carried and exhibited at all times.

A fish movement permit shall not be transferred from one person to another or used for any vehicle or vessel or used for any batch or consignment of fish other than the one for which it is issued.
