Trinidad and Tobago - Register for OJT (On-the-Job Training) Program

In the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the On-the-Job Training Program (OJT) is designed to offer pre-employment program wherein, the participants between the ages of 16-35 will be inducted into the world of work and focuses on their acquisition of practical occupational skills and experience within organizations (public and private).

Apply In-Person:

The Labor department announces “OJT” requirements/notifications on their portal.

In the given page, please click on the “Learn More” button to reach the announcement page.
Once the announced information suits the candidate criteria, please scroll down and click on the “NEW TRAINEE REGISTRATION FORM” option to download the application form.
Please complete the form and attach those documents as per requirement.
Go to the nearest “OJT” office. Please use the following Link
On reaching the office, please submit the application set the respective authority concerned.
The authority will check the submitted application set to make sure tht the application is complete with required documents are in place.
If all are in place, the application will be accepted. The applicants are advised to follow the authorities guidelines about any acknowledgement for submission of application and also about the interview schedule.
The applicants will be provided a interview schedule.
On the scheduled date, the applicant shall attend the interview in a professional attire as advised.
The Interview will be conducted based on “first-in, first-out” system.
Upon the completion of interview, the applicant will be advised about the next set of activities.
This application will be processed. Selected candidate will be contacted via telephone and/or email for placement.
The candidate shall follow the notification for joining the program.

Note:
Applicants are required to walk with their National Identification card and Academic Certificates i.e. CSEC, CAPE, Associate, Diploma, TVET, Bachelor's or Master's/PhD, for both registration and at the scheduled interview.

Utility Bill (no more than 2 months old) for proof of address.
If the utility bill is in another person's name, a Letter of Authorization is required. *Applicants are also required to submit a copy of the person's ID along with the Letter of Authorization

OJT targets young persons who are graduates from secondary and technical, vocational tertiary institutions.

The programme aims to:

provide individuals aged 16-35 with job skills and work based training opportunities that would offer them a foothold in the employment market.
match academic and vocational skills of prospective apprentices with labour market needs.
encourage young persons to adopt specific strategies and positive work attitudes in order to enhance their chances of successfully sustaining employment and self-employment opportunities.
inspire and motivate trainees to maximize the benefits to be derived from their participation in the programme.
facilitate improved self-respect, self-esteem and confidence among young individuals, thereby enhancing their ability to interact successfully in the wider community.
assist trainees in developing the professional and interpersonal skills necessary for success in the workplace.
forge strategic alliances with private and public sector employers in the creation of job opportunities and the development of the nation's human resource capacity.
create a cadre of trained individuals with relevant job exposure, so they are able to access employment in various businesses and industries.
