South Africa - Online Register for Value Added Tax

- Step 2 : To apply for Registering for Value Added Tax online, visit the official website of the South African Revenue Service by clicking the following link: Apply Online
- Step 3 : If you are already registered as a taxpayer and have the user credentials, click “Login” button which is highlighted in “Red” in the below image.
- Step 4 : Now enter the "Username", click “Next” button which is highlighted in “Red” in the below image and enter "Password", click “Next” button.
- Step 5 : Otherwise, in the page that appears click “Register” Hyperlink at the bottom of the page which is highlighted in “Green” in the below image.
- Step 6 : In registration page, enter the personal details and click “Next” button which is highlighted in “Red” in the below image.
- Step 7 : In next page, enter contact and login details and click “Next” button.
- Step 8 : Since you a new applicant, you have to provide your personal information in next page. Fill the mandatory fields and click “Submit” button. The “Registration Request Received” message will appear and your case number will be displayed which you should use to follow up on your registration case.
- Step 9 : Click “continue” button to proceed to upload documents or “save for later” button to continue this process later. If you click “continue” button, you will be redirected to a page where you can upload the required documents by clicking “Upload” button, after uploading click “Submit” button.
- Step 10 : Confirm submission dialogue will appear. Click “Continue” button if you are sure or “cancel” button if you want to recheck. After this, you will be redirected to the beginning page. You can click “Query status” button to check the status of application.
- Step 11 : The application is in progress and you will be prompted to upload more required documents in your work page. Upload the relevant and required documents as instructed and click “Submit” button and complete the registration process as prompted.
- Step 12 : Once your documents have been validated the “Complete Registration” button will be displayed on your Registration Work page. Click on “Complete Registration” button. You will be prompted to select your preferred method of communication for eFiling security purposes.
- Step 13 : Select either ‘Cell number’ option or ‘Email’ option and click “Continue” button. The One Time Pin (OTP) page will be displayed which requests you to complete the last 6 digits of your OTP sent through to your preferred method of communication.
- Step 14 : Complete the OTP and click on “Submit” button. If the OTP completed is correct, a message will be displayed indicating you are now registered for eFiling. Upon completion of your registration, you are now required to login to the SARS eFiling website by making use of your Username and Password.
- Step 15 : After logging in, locate the “SARS Registered Details” functionality. If the portfolio is individual, select “Home” tab and find “SARS Registered Details” functionality whereas on the Tax Practitioner and Organisations eFiling profiles, the “SARS Registered Details” functionality is under the “Organisations” menu.
- Step 16 : Click “Maintain SARS Registered Details” option and select “I Agree” button. Then click “VAT” option under “My tax products>Revenue” option on left menu and select “Add new product registration” option which will direct you to RAV01 form with VAT container.
- Step 17 : Complete the form as required with relevant information and make appropriate selections under the “VAT Business Activity” section. Complete the application for Registration as applicable and submit the form by clicking the applicable button.
- Step 18 : After submission, the completed form and corresponding documents will be put into further verification and validation processes.
- Step 19 : Once all the processes got completed, the authorities will perform necessary actions for the registration process as per the applicant’s request and a Registration Certificate will be issued to the applicant with prior intimation.
