Pre-registration process

  1. Before this registration, the company has to be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Refer for relevant information register a company

Apply In-Person:

  1. Before applying for a registration, the registrant must do some preparations and make arrangements for some important documents.
  2. Initially, the person wishes to register a Disabled Persons Organization (DPO) must formulate an organizational plan containing the organization's beliefs, mission, and purpose.
  3. Also, you have to choose a proper first name and an alternate name (in case the first name is unavailable) of your choice for your DPO.
  4. Then, you should proceed for appointing trustee(s) for your organization after which you have to consult an attorney accredited by the Corporate Affairs Commission who will help or advise in the further legal matters.
  5. The CAC accredited attorney will conduct a name availability search at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registry and check whether the name that you have chosen is available for reservation.
  6. If yes, he/she will make the arrangements for reserving and registering that name which will be completed within 48 hours.
  7. Publication of the notice of intention of the DPO registration along with the reserved name, the names of trustees, aims and objectives and an invitation for objections (if any), will be done by the attorney within 28 days of the registration.
  8. Meetings should be held for formulating the Board of Trustees and drafting the constitution. Then, the attorney will draft the Minutes of Meeting for the meeting held.
  9. Your appointed attorney will then compile all the required documents for the Incorporation and submit it at the Corporate Affairs Commission.
  10. After all the internal processes, the CAC will issue the Incorporation Certificate through the attorney and then, you will be required to open a bank account in the name of the organization.
  11. Hence, all the documentation for the application of registration is ready and the applicant can proceed to apply for registration.
  12. To register the DPO, the applicant must visit the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) Branch in the Federal Ministry of Education.

  14. Prepare a formal application for registration addressed to the Honourable Minister of Education. Visit the office with the application letter and other documents listed in the “required documents” section of this page.
  15. Put together all the documents and application letter, and then submit to the relevant authority at the office.
  16. Also, pay the required fees only in bank draft payable to Federal Ministry of Education: Registration of NGOs e-Collection and submit the proof of payment at the office.
  17. A mandatory pre-registration visit to the organization’s Head Office would also be made by officials of the Federal Ministry of Education to verify the organization’s claims and mandate.
  18. Upon meeting the requirements listed above and a satisfactory pre-registration visit, the organization would be registered as a collaborating DPO with the Ministry and issued with a Registration Certificate.

  • Any individual or organisation, that wishes to run a Disabled Persons Organisation, can apply.
  • The applying organisation must have registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as well as with the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
  • The applying organisation must have a bank account in its name.

  • The application process will be more efficient if the applicant seeks help from an accredited solicitor by the Corporate Affairs Commission in completing the pre and post incorporation matters.
  • The registrants are expected to submit report of the organisational activities bi-annually and annual plan for the year in the beginning month of that year.
