Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. The applicant will need to visit the official Canadian government website, use this Link
2. The applicant needs to ensure they have a very strong reason to enter Canada for the TRP to be approved.
3. The applicant will need a TRP immigration lawyer, who will apply for a TRP on their behalf.
4. The applicant will need to fill in all the details in the application form and attach all documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant will have to pay fees as mentioned under the “Fees” section of this page, the receipt must be attached with the application form.
6. The applicant will also have to give biometric information.
7. The immigration lawyer will submit all documents to the relevant authorities.
8. If approved, the applicant shall receive their TRP within 1 to 6 months and can collect the document from the office.

NOTE:
Procedure to pay the fee:

• Visit the online payment portal, here is the link: Fee payment.
• Scroll to the bottom and answer the questions to determine fees.
• After determining the fee, the applicant will be redirected to the payment portal where they will have to pay using a credit/debit card.
• Print the receipt.

Apply by Mail

1. The applicant will need to download and fill the application form, using the following link Application form.
2. Fill in all relevant details and if a certain field in the application form does not apply to the applicant just write “NA”.
3. Attach required documents with the application form.
4. A list of documents can be found under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Make sure to attach documents to the document checklist, here is the link (This document checklist needs to be attached with the application form].
6. The applicant will need to pay fees online, this is the only way to pay. (Application fee).
7. Attach a copy of the fee receipt to the application form.
8. The applicant will need to send their completed application form along with all supporting documents in a 23 cm x 30.5 cm (9″ x 12″) envelope.
9. The applicant will have to write their name and address on the top-left hand corner of the envelope.
10. Address the envelope as follows: Case Processing Centre in Edmonton Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada c/o Visitor and Temporary Resident Permits, Station 303 9700 Jasper Avenue NW, Suite 55 Edmonton, AB T5J 4C3.

Eligibility

• A TRP is issued to a foreign national who is considered inadmissible or does not meet the requirements for immigration.
• The applicant shall only be issued a TRP if the benefits of them being in Canadian society outweighs the risks.
• The applicant will only be issued a TRP if their need for entering Canada is compelling.

Fees

• Temporary resident permit: $200
• Biometrics (per person): $85
• Maximum fee for a family of 2 or more people applying at the same time and place: $170

Validity

• Validity varies depending on the type of visa.
• Validity depends on the length of the applicant’s stay.
