For Full-time students
- To apply for a student loan online, the applicant will need to visit the Alberta Student Aid website, use the following Link
- If the applicant has an account, log in using the credentials.
- If the applicant does not have an account follow these steps to create one:
- On the log in page, click on the “Create an account” option.
- The applicant will be directed to another page where they will have to enter information such as their email, username, password and other personal information such as their name, DOB, sex and address.
- Click on the “I agree to the terms and conditions” option and click on “Submit”.
- The applicant will receive a verification link in their email ID, click on this link to verify the account.
- The applicant will also have to verify their identity, upload a digital copy of the Alberta driver’s license or any other identification document.
- The applicant can also verify their identity by using the Secure Identity and Access Management System (SIAMS), find the documents required under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant will need to give additional details such as their Alberta student number, DOB and social insurance number to verify the account.
- The applicant will be mailed an access code to the address on the ID that has been uploaded.
- The applicant can use this access code to log in to their My Alberta account.
- Once logged in to the My Alberta account, the applicant will need to click on the “Apply for student loan” option and enter the SIN number.
- The applicant will be directed to the student loan welcome page.
- Click on the application for the student loan option depending on the year the applicant is starting their year of study.
- Read through the terms and conditions and click on “Apply”.
- The applicant will see a digital application fill this with all relevant details such as personal information, studies information and financial information.
- Once all the details have been entered click on the “Proceed to submit” option and submit the application.
- Enter the loan amount required and click on submit.
- The applicant will be directed to a declaration page, read through this carefully.
- Click on submit an application, and return to the welcome page.
- At the bottom of the welcome page, the applicant can track the status of their application.
- The applicant shall receive information about whether the loan has been granted within 45 days from the submission of the application.
- The applicant shall receive the money within a week from the day their program starts.

For part-time students

- Click on the “I agree to the terms and conditions” option and click on “Submit”.

- Once the application has been uploaded, wait for the application to get approved.
Apply by Mail
For part-time students
- To apply for a loan, the applicant will need to complete the application form with all relevant details, download the application form by using the link under the “Documents to use” section of this page or Use the following link to download the Application Form
- Make sure to fill the application form for the year of the applicant’s study.
- The applicant will need to attach a copy of their SIN or any other identification document.
- Mail the complete application form to the following address: Alberta Student Aid PO Box 28000 STN MAIN Edmonton AB T5J 4R4
- Once the application has been submitted, the applicant will need to wait for the loan to get approved, within 4-6 weeks.

- Alberta or Canada Cashed Loan Certificate Number (loans prior to 2013).

EligibilityEdit
For full-time students:
- The applicant should be enrolled in 60% of what the applicant’s school considers full-time study.
- If the applicant has a permanent disability they must be enrolled in 40% of what is considered full-time study.
- The applicant is enrolled in a course that is 12 weeks or longer.
- The course must have 20 plus hours of course/practicum hours.
- The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or have permanent residency.
- The applicant can apply if they have a protected person’s status.

For part-time students:
- The applicant must be a resident of Alberta or must have lived in Alberta for 12 months consecutively.
- The applicant is currently living in Alberta and has never lived in any other province for 12 months. (The applicant will have to submit a residency resume)
- The applicant must show financial need.
- Any loan the applicant has must show good standing.
FeesEdit
The applicant does not need to pay fees to apply for a student loan.
ValidityEdit
- The student loan is valid for a period of 12 months after which the applicant will need to apply for a loan again if they continue studying.
