Alaska - Convert a Driving License from another state or Country to
ProcedureEdit
- Go to a DMV office.
- Surrender your out-of-state driver license.
- Pass the written knowledge test.
- Pass an alcohol and drug awareness test upon reaching the age of 21.
- Pass a vision test
- Provide proof of legal name, date of birth, their current residence address and social security number (card).
- Pay the fee.
- Pass a road test.

The following documents are acceptable for proving legal name and date of birth. If your legal name is different than what is printed on your birth certificate, you will need to bring in the document(s) that provide proof of the name change, unless you have previously obtained an Alaska learner's permit or Alaska State ID card in your current name.
- An original or certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate (From Vital Statistics)

- Passport (Issued by the United States or Canada. Must be current.)
- An Alaska learner's permit or Alaska State Identification card.
- Military Identification for active duty, retiree or reservist.
- Certificate of Citizenship, Naturalization or Birth Abroad.
- Passport issued from another country, with appropriate immigration documents.
- Social Security Card
- Original Social Security Card ( Metal and laminated cards are not acceptable).
- Letter from the Social Security Administration verifying your name and number.
- Letter from the Social Security Administration verifying you have never been assigned a social security number.

- Residence Address
The following items are acceptable for proving residency. The document must show your residence address, not a post office box or other mail cache facility.
- Utility bill
- Alaska voter registration card
- Alaska title and/or registration (Issued at least 30 days prior to application)
- Paycheck Stub
- Medical Assistance card
- Public Assistance card
- Cancelled check or bank statement
- Mortgage or rental documents

EligibilityEdit
- The applicant must be at least 16 years of age and holds a valid driver's license from another state, US Territory or country.
FeesEdit
- Commercial (A/CDL, B/CDL, C/CDL) - $100.00
- Driver / Motorcycle (D, M1, M2) - $20.00
ValidityEdit
A driver license issued to an applicant under the age of 21 will expire 90 days after the applicant's 21st birthday. The applicant would be required to pass an alcohol and drug awareness knowledge test to obtain a license. All other Alaska driver license's expire on the applicants birthday and are valid for approximately five years.

InstructionsEdit
- You can use your valid non-commercial license from another state, US Territory or country to drive in Alaska, provided you are at least 16 years of age.
- If you will be driving in Alaska for more than 90 days, you are required to obtain an Alaska driver license within that 90 day time period.
- A commercial driver license is valid in Alaska for a non-resident. If you become a resident of Alaska, you are required to obtain an Alaska license within 30 days.
- An individual that presents a valid license from Canada is not required to take a road test.
