Alaska - Change of Address Information in Driver Licence

- You must update each individual driver license, boat, vehicle, trailer, etc. separately. Updating one record does not currently update all of your DMV records.
- You MUST have an Alaska driver license or ID card to be eligible to update your address on your vehicle or boat record using the Online Address Change System.
- Follow link to update new address through online https://online.dmv.alaska.gov/dos/RegRenewal/RegRenewal/
- You may send a letter requesting the change of address. Be sure to include the following:
- License plate number(s) and last two digits of the serial number for ALL vehicles you own. (Boat, trailer, ATV, snow machine, passenger vehicle and truck/van) Be sure to print clearly.
- To change information on your driver license, please provide your driver license number and printed name.
- Your signature must be on the request in order for it to be processed.
- Mail the change of address request letter to any DMV office.
- In Person
- You may change your address in person at your local DMV office. The best times to go to the DMV are:
- The middle of that office's work week
- The middle of the month
- Before noon
- The busiest times are:
- Mondays or Tuesdays, depending on the office's schedule
- The lunch hour; approximately 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- The very beginning of the month
- The last few days of the month

- Legal name & date of birth (primary document)
The following documents are acceptable for proving legal name and date of birth. If your legal name is different than what is printed on your birth certificate, you will need to bring in the document(s) that provide proof of the name change, unless you have previously obtained an Alaska learner's permit or Alaska State ID card in your current name.
- An original or certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate (From Vital Statistics)

- Passport (Issued by the United States or Canada. Must be current.)
- An Alaska learner's permit or Alaska State Identification card.
- Military Identification for active duty, retiree or reservist.
- Certificate of Citizenship, Naturalization or Birth Abroad.
- Passport issued from another country, with appropriate immigration documents.
- Social Security Card
- Original Social Security Card ( Metal and laminated cards are not acceptable).
- Letter from the Social Security Administration verifying your name and number.
- Letter from the Social Security Administration verifying you have never been assigned a social security number.
- If a number has been assigned to you, it is required on the application. For information regarding your social security number, please see the following: http://www.ssa.gov
- Residence Address
The following items are acceptable for proving residency. The document must show your residence address, not a post office box or other mail cache facility.
- Utility bill
- Alaska voter registration card
- Alaska title and/or registration (Issued at least 30 days prior to application)
- Paycheck Stub
- Medical Assistance card
- Public Assistance card
- Cancelled check or bank statement
- Mortgage or rental documents

InstructionsEdit
- When you move or change your mailing address, please provide a written change of address request to the Division of Motor Vehicles.
- For a change of address on a vehicle record, you may be able to use our online change of address system to update the address on each vehicle.
- You may also update your change of address through Mail or in person at DMV office.
- Please be aware that you must provide the information for ALL vehicles and driver license's that you wish to have the information updated on, as your files are not linked.
- You will not receive notification that the change has been made. For your records, you may do the following:
- Vehicles - Please cross out the previous address on your registration and write the correct address in the space provided.
- Driver License - If you wish to have a new license showing your current address, you must apply for a duplicate license.

- If your new address is not in Alaska, please provide the reason for the out of state address. (Military, college student, vacation, moved, etc.)
