To transfer a power of attorney from one agent to another, the applicant will need to revoke the original power of attorney document and write a new one.
Apply In Person
Step 1: Cancel Current Power of Attorney

  1. To cancel the Power of Attorney, the applicant must approach nearby Offices of the United States Attorneys link
    Note: The applicant must select their respective district from the drop-down menu to find nearby offices to them.
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant must enter all the details in the application form.
  4. Make sure that the applicant must attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant must attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the necessary documents along with the completed form to the concerned attorney officer.
  7. The fee for this procedure must be paid as per the attorney’s request.
  8. The designated attorney will review the documents. The attorney will draft the cancellation of power of attorney documentation process.
  9. The principal must draft a deed/notice of revocation of the PoA. The deed must mention the reason for which the POA is being revoked, the effective date of the revocation and the consequences of such an action. Such a deed/notice of revocation must be duly served upon the agent for proceeding with the revocation procedure.
  10. The deed/notice of revocation should be published in a local or national newspaper to inform persons with whom the agent is interacting on behalf of the principal about the revocation.
  11. The same authority which registered the POA will have to register the cancellation deed of the POA.
  12. A copy of the cancellation deed of the POA should be sent to the agent to inform him/her of such registration of revocation.
  13. The copies of the cancellation deed of the POA can also be sent to persons with whom the agent has been interacting on behalf of the principal so that they cease any business or dealings with the agent.

  6. Submit all the necessary documents along with the completed form to the concerned attorney officer.
  7. The fee for this procedure must be paid as per the attorney’s request.
  8. The designated attorney will review the documents. The attorney will draft the power of attorney documentation process.
  9. Once the officer drafts the POA, the applicant must sign and notarize it.
  10. The processing time to obtain Power of Attorney is takes up to 8 – 10 weeks.
