ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for a pet passport, the applicant needs to contact or visit the nearest Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) office; the addresses and contact information can be found under the “Office Locations and contacts” section of this page Link.
  2. The applicant will need to print the application form on legal paper (For information on a legal paper check under information which might help section of this page).
  3. Here is the link to the application form, download it directly from their website Exotic pets or trilingual or bilingual.
  4. The application needs to be completed by a veterinarian.
  5. Once completed, the application needs to be endorsed by an official government veterinarian.
  6. Pay the application fee and get the receipt. Submit the application form.
  7. The pet passport will be issued depending on the country, the applicant is travelling to and/or the number of vaccinations the pet may need before travelling.
  8. The applicant shall receive the passport from their vet, within a month.


Note: The pet needs to be vaccinated against rabies.

EligibilityEdit

  • The pet should be up to date on their vaccinations.
  • The applicant must check to see if the destination country accepts the pet passport.
  • The applicant will need a permit if they are travelling with an exotic pet.
