Alberta - Get Insurance Adjuster Certificate of Authority

ProcedureEdit

Apply Online:

  1. To get an Insurance Adjuster Certificate of Authority, the applicant will need to approach the Alberta Insurance Council. Here is the contact Link
  2. The applicant will need to pass an exam within the last 12 months before applying for a license. Find information here Link
  3. The applicant will need a CIPR number before logging in to their account. Click on the link under the “Required Documents” section of this page to obtain the number.
  4. The applicant can log in using the following Link
  5. If the applicant does not have an account, follow these steps:
    • Click on the following link to the user registration page Link
    • Enter all the relevant information when prompted and click on the “Register” option.
    • Once the applicant enters the information and clicks on the register, they shall obtain their CIPR number, save this information.
    • The applicant must click on the link sent to their registered email to activate their account.
    • Log in to the account using the credentials once the applicant has clicked on the link.
  6. Once logged in, on the left side of the page, click on “Licenses”.
  7. Under “No active licenses”, click on the “Apply for a License” option.
  8. Enter all the details when prompted. Under license class select one option under the “general” option depending on the one that applies to the applicant and click on “Continue”.
  9. Select “Yes, create an application”.
  10. Enter all the other information when prompted.
  11. Submit digital copies of the documents under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  12. The applicant will need to make the fee payment, find further information under the “Fees” section of this page.
  13. Submit the application by clicking on “Submit”.
  14. The applicant will need to write exams depending on the level they have applies for.
  15. The applicant shall receive their certificate once they complete the exams and apply for a license.

EligibilityEdit

  • The applicant must pass the exam within the last 12 months.
  • The applicant can apply as an employee or an independent contractor and be recommended by a licensed Designated Representative of a licensed adjusting firm.
  • The applicant must undergo a criminal record check.
  • Any non-resident may be exempt from the exam if they can demonstrate that they have passed an exam equivalent to Alberta's exam.
