Apply In Mail

  1. To Request for Organic Exemption for Avocados, the applicant has to approach the Hass Avocado Board. Contact details are mentioned in “Office Locations & Contacts” of this page. Or use the following given Contact Link
  2. An application form is available at the following Link
  3. The applicant should make sure to carry all the documents that are mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page (Both photocopies and originals).
  4. Applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the form and attach the photocopies of the documents that are needed along with the application form before submitting to the mailing address.
  5. Mailing address is mentioned in “Office Locations & Contacts” of this page.
  6. There is no fee required for this procedure.
  7. Eligible importers/producers may submit paperwork to the Board and request an exemption from assessment on certified "organic" or "100 percent organic" Hass avocados on an Organic Exemption Request Form at any time during the year, as long as the importer/producer remains eligible.
  8. The Board will just have 30 days to decide whether or not to grant the exemption request.
  9. If the application is denied, the Board will advise the applicant within the same timeframe of the reasons for denial.
  10. The Hass avocado board will permit the request for eligible importers and producers.

  • Application form
  • Certification that the applicant has a valid certificate of certified organic production given under the Organic Foods Production Act of 1990 (7 USC 6501-6522) (OFPA) or a US equivalency agreement for Hass avocados established under the NOP.
  • Certification that the applicant imports verified organic Hass Avocados that are suitable for the NOP's "organic" or "100% organic" designation.
  • Under the OFPA and the NOP, the applicant must attach a copy of their certificate of organic operation issued by a USDA-accredited certifying agent.
  • Certification that all information submitted by the applicant is true, as proven by the signature of an officer of the importing company and the date.
  • With the consent of the United States Secretary of Agriculture, the Hass Avocado Board may request more information.

EligibilityEdit

  • Importer who imports Hass Avocados that are eligible to be labelled as “organic” or “100 percent organic” under the National Organic Program (NOP) (7 CFR part 205), or certified as “organic” or “100 percent organic” under a U.S. equivalency arrangement established under the NOP may apply for exemption from the payment of the Hass Avocado Board (HAB) assessment on those Hass Avocados.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Hass avocados imported into the United States that are certified as "organic" or "100 percent organic" are assessed by the importer of record who holds a valid Certificate of Exemption.

  • The OFPA requires a copy of this company's organic farm or organic handling operation certificate and amendment given by a USDA-accredited certifying agent.
  • Importers must include a copy of the eligible product's certificate or equivalence agreement, as defined by NOP.



Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

  • A valid Certificate of Exemption from the HAB at the time of importation will be eligible for a refund.
