Apply Through Vahan Samanvay Portal

  1. To request for vehicle enquiry (Police Department), use the following link to verify the status of the 2nd hand vehicle (whether Stolen or Not): Link
  2. In the given page, please click on the checkbox or option “Verify status of 2nd hand vehicle (Stolen or Not)” and complete the form prompts as appropriate.
  3. The applicant should complete the online form prompts for Applicant name, City, Pin Code, Mobile number, E-mail ID, Vehicle type, Vehicle make, Registration number, Chasis number, Engine number, Year of manufacture, Color of the vehicle and then click on the “Search” button.
  4. A vehicle enquiry report page with the vehicle details will be provided.
  5. If the vehicle is not stolen and there is no complaint registered, a message “As per the information available with NCRB till date (based on data received from States/UTs police) the above-mentioned vehicle has not been reported as stolen by police” will be provided at the bottom of the page.


Apply In-Person

  1. The vehicle enquiry request can be made by an individual at the nearest police station to make sure that the particular vehicle is not a stolen or the vehicle does not involved in any crime or the missing of the original papers and the vehicle has clean record for own use or to purchase.
  2. Contact link Please select the respective button as appropriate for contact details.
  3. The applicant shall visit the respective office and brief the concerned authority about the requirement. Please collect the request form from the concerned authority or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
  4. Please complete the application form with the mandatory details including registration number, chassis number, engine number and mention the request type in detail.
  5. Once the request is ready, please attach the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit it to the designated receiving authority.
  6. After receiving the request, authorities will check the request and documents. If all are in place, the request will be accepted.
  7. The authorities will make entries about this request in the manual record or electronically using the computer.
  8. The request will be processed further. The ”SMS” triggered update on request status will be sent to the applicant’s mobile or the applicant gets a call from the police station about the status.
  9. The concerned authorities will process the request. Once the required information on the investigation is ascertained, a report will be generated.
  10. Once the processing is over, the report will be submitted to the respective signing authority.
  11. The signing authority will endorse the report with his/her seal after evaluation.
  12. The status will be conveyed to the applicant through an SMS or through phone call.
  13. The applicant shall visit the concerned police station to get the report.
  14. There is no fee required for this procedure.
  15. The whole process can be completed in 7 days.


Note: This process is helpful for those buying second hand vehicle.

  • The applicant should be a citizen of India.
  • Those who are 18 years and above are eligible to apply.
  • Whenever an individual wanted to make sure, that the particular vehicle is not a stolen or the vehicle does not involved in crime or the missing of the original papers and the vehicle has clean record for own use or to purchase shall apply.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • This process ensures that the vehicle which an individual is planning to buy from someone or owning already is not a stolen vehicle and it does not involved in any criminal activity.
  • As the vehicle's RC, insurance are mandatory for the purchase of a used vehicle, it is also must, to get the clarification from the police department about the vehicle’s track record before the purchase of a vehicle from someone.
