Before you can begin to help your clients, you need to register yourself as a GST Practitioner.
Apply In-Person
- A person desirous of becoming GST Practitioner has to submit an application form ‘GST PCT-1’ at the In-come tax office (address can be found in “Office Locations & Contacts” section).

- In Part –A of the form, you will have to provide your full name, PAN, email and mobile number.
- Please note that the information submitted in Part A is subject to verification before proceeding to fill up Part-B
- In part B you’ll be asked to provide Membership details, Personal details and Qualification details.

- Then, read the consent and sign under the verification.
- Enclose relevant documents for verification as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section.
- Submit your completed form to the concerned Tax official.
- After submitting the application, fee of Rs. 500 has to be paid.
- The application will be scrutinised and GST practitioner certificate will be granted in the form GST PCT-2.
- In case, the application is rejected, proper reasons will be mentioned in the form GST PCT-4.
Apply Online
- To register as Tax agent (GST practitioner), you must go to the website Link
- Then, go to “Services” tab and click on “Registration” from the drop down menu.
- Select ‘’New Registration’’ to start the registration process
- It will take you to the ‘‘New Registration’’ page
- In the ‘I am a’ dropdown menu, select “GST Practitioner”
- Select the State and District from the appropriate dropdown menus
- Enter your Name, PAN, Email Address and Aadhaar-linked Mobile Number in the relavant text boxes
- Enter the captcha code correctly
- And then, click on the ‘’Proceed’’ button
- After validation, you will be redirected to the OTP verification page
- Enter the 2 different OTPs received on e-mail and mobile number
- Then, click on the ‘’Proceed’’ button.
- This will generate a TRN.
- Enter TRN and Captcha and click on ‘‘Proceed’’ again.
- Enter all the details required for this part as mentioned in the “Required Information” section of this page
- Upload necessary documents in .pdf and .jpeg format. (refer to “Required Documents” for list of documents)
- Now, there are 3 ways to Submit your Registration.
- To submit using DSC
- Click on the ‘Submit with DSC’ button.
- Then, click on Proceed button.
- To submit using E-Signature
- Click on ‘Submit with E-Sign’ button.
- Then, click on the ‘I Agree’ option in the Declaration box.
- Enter the OTP that is sent to the Email ID and the mobile number that is registered with Aadhar.
- Finally, click on the Continue button.
- To submit using the Electronic Verification Code
- Click on ‘Submit with EVC’ button.
- Click on the ‘I Agree’ declaration box.
- The system sends an OTP to the phone number registered with Aadhar.
- Enter OTP
- Now, click on the Continue button.
- Once the application is submitted, a success message will appear on screen.
- You will also receive an acknowledgment on your registered e-mail id and mobile number within 15 minutes.
- Your Application for Registration will be processed by the concerned Tax Officer.
- Once your Application is approved, your GSTP ID will be generated by the system along with a temporary password for first-time login and sent to your registered e-mail address.
- ARN status will also be changed to ‘Approved’.
- The enrolment Certificate will be available at the Dashboard of the GSTP for view, print and download.
- In case of rejection, Rejection Order will get generated and communicated to you.
- ARN status will be changed to ‘Rejected’.
- Intimation of Rejection will be sent to you via email and SMS on
- Rejection Order will be available at the Dashboard of the GSTP for view, print and download.

EligibilityEdit
- Should be a Citizen of India
- Should be of sound mind
- Should not be adjudged as an insolvent
- Should not be convicted of an offense with imprisonment of 2 years or more
In addition to this the GST Practitioner should have any of following qualifications:
- Chartered Accountant holding COP
- Chartered Accountant without COP
- Company Secretary holding COP
- Company Secretary without COP
- Cost and Management Accountant holding COP
- Cost and Management Accountant without COP
- Graduate or Postgraduate degree in Business Management
- Degree examination of any recognized Foreign University recognized by any Indian University as equivalent to degree examination
- Retired Government Officials
- Advocate
- Graduate or Postgraduate degree in Commerce
- Graduate or Postgraduate degree in Banking
- Graduate or Postgraduate degree in Business Administration

- Application fee of Rs. 500 has to be paid.
ValidityEdit
- The GST practitioner license would be valid until it’s cancelled by the relevant authority.

Processing TimeEdit
After the completion of the procedure, the system sends an acknowledgement and an Application Reference Number (ARN) to the registered Email ID and mobile number within the next 15 minutes.

InstructionsEdit
- Any person holding a GST Practitioner license should pass examinations held by the GST Authority and notified by the Commissioner from time to time.
- All persons applying to become a GST Practitioner through the sales tax practitioner or tax return preparer route should pass the exam conducted by the GST Authority within one year from the implementation of GST.

- If anyone provides tax agent services for a fee or other reward, they must be registered. There are severe penalties for anyone providing tax agent services for a fee or reward, advertising tax agent services or representing as a registered tax agent while unregistered.

Tax agent services relate to:
- working out or advising about liabilities, obligations or entitlements of clients under a taxation law, or
- representing entities in their dealings with the Commissioner of Taxation,
So the client can be reasonably expected to rely on the service to satisfy liabilities or obligations, or to claim entitlements, under a taxation law.

- A single Enrolment is sufficient for practicing on all India basis. No separate registration is required for other States or Centre. However, you are free to apply for another registration in other States if you have a Professional Address in that State.
