ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. In order to register and obtain a remote pilot licence, the candidate shall approach “Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DCGA)” authorized remote pilot training organization.
  2. Link for contact details link please use the contact details listed in this page.
  3. Candidate shall select the centre as per their requirement. Ensure “FTO’s” are providing the training as per curriculum, with at least minimum ground and practical training specified in the “CAR”.
  4. Please enrol with the institution for a remote pilot training program as prescribed by the “DCGA”.
  5. Candidate should complete the training prescribed by the director general for the applicable class of remote pilot licence.
  6. Once the training is complete, candidate need to pass the prescribed proficiency test.
  7. On successful completion of the above said training and proficiency test, the candidate will be issued a remote pilot training certificate within next seven days or as per the applicable time period.
  8. This remote pilot training certificate will be issued through the digital sky platform. From this point onwards, the candidate shall follow the institute’s guidelines.
  9. With a valid remote pilot training certificate in hand, please register as a remote pilot with digital sky platform and upload required documents as mentioned in our “Required Documents” section of this page, as follows.

  1. Please use the following link to register as remote pilot link
  2. In the given page, please click “I am a trained remote pilot” option and select the “Yes, Sign up” button.
  3. Candidate will reach “Pilot Registration” page. Here, please click “An Indian Pilot” option to get “Indian Pilot : Account creation” page.
  4. Please enter the prompted details as appropriate for “Name”, “Email id” and “Mobile number” sections and use the “Continue” button for each section respectively to progress to the successive sections. Once the “Password” section is complete, then click the “Preview” button.
  5. A preview screen will be provided. Please go through the details and click the “Create Account” button at the bottom of the page.
  6. A declaration screen will be provided. Please click the checkbox for “I ….” And hit the “Continue” button.
  7. Applicant will get a new page to verify the email account. At the same time, applicant would have received a mail. Go to your mail ID and check the applicable mail with verification “OTP”.
  8. Please enter the received “OTP” against “Enter OTP (from email)” and click the “VERIFY” button to get “Verify SMS OTP” prompts.
  9. Now enter the received “OTP” against “Enter OTP (from SMS)” prompt and click the “VERIFY” button.
  10. Applicant will reach “Captcha for security check” page. Please enter the given captcha as appropriate and click the “SUBMIT” button to get a new page with “Congratulations, account created successfully!” message.
  11. Please go through the details and click the “Yes, Create profile” button to reach “Indian Pilot : Profile creation” page.
  12. Here, applicant should process the page prompts for the sections (Identity Proof(s) [First ID details, Second ID details], Education, Date of Birth, Street address, PIN code) as appropriate and then click the “Preview” button to get the preview.
  13. Now click the “Create Profile” button to get a declaration screen. Please click the checkbox for “I ….” And click the “Continue” button to get a new screen with “Your pilot profile application is created successfully!” message.
  14. Now the pilot profile is created. Please click the “Go to dashboard” button.
  15. Applicant will reach the dashboard. Please select “Add a training record” option under “Add a training record” to reach “Add training records & logs” page.
  16. Please click “Start adding” button to get a page with “Select FTO, choose an RPA category, Upload training records and logs, Enter training details and add” sections.
  17. From this point onwards, applicant should provide and upload training, institution, certificate and other prompted details as applicable. Please upload the required documents as appropriate. Applicant need to use the “Continue” button for each section, respectively.
  18. Once reaching “Enter training details and add” section, please complete the section with relevant details and click “Finish adding” button to reach “Add training records & logs” page. Now click “Preview” button to get “Training Records & Logs” page.
  19. Please go through the details and click the “Submit” button to get a declaration screen. Please click the checkbox for “I ….” And hit the “Continue” button to get a new page with “Training Records submitted successfully!” message.
  20. Now the applicant has completed online requirement and have to wait for approval from “DGCA” as per standard operating procedure.
  21. The “Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DCGA)” may issue the remote pilot licence through the digital sky platform, within fifteen days or as per applicable timeline.
  22. Applicant shall check their email and mobile (SMS) for the department’s notification. Upon notification, the candidate shall obtain the remote pilot licence as per applicable norms.


NOTE:

  • The remote pilot should ensure that privacy norms of any entity are not compromised in any manner.
  • In case of foreign remote pilots employed by Indian entity, “DGCA” shall forward documents for security clearance to security agencies in accordance with the procedure being followed for foreign aircrew temporary authorization (FATA) pilots.

EligibilityEdit

  • The applicant should be eighteen years of age (and not more than sixty-five years of age).
  • Those who have passed class tenth or its equivalent examination from a recognized Board.
  • Remote pilot training certificate holder. Applicant should have completed the training prescribed by the director general for the applicable class of remote pilot licence from an authorized remote pilot training organization.



FeesEdit

  • Applicant should pay the requisite fees for the training program.



ValidityEdit

  • A remote pilot licence shall be valid only if it is enlisted on the digital sky platform.
  • A remote pilot licence shall, unless suspended or cancelled, remain valid for a period of ten years, and may be renewed by any authorized remote pilot training organization for the period specified therein, subject to a maximum period of ten years.
  • Provided that the holder of the remote pilot licence undergoes such refresher courses as may be specified by the Director General of the digital sky platform from time to time.


Note:

  • No remote pilot licence shall be required for a person operating a nano drone and operating a micro drone for non-commercial purposes.

  • The processing time for online licence issuance will be around 15 to 20 days from the date of submitting the application successfully.

InstructionsEdit

  • Remote pilot training is not applicable for Nano and micro category “RPA” pilots intending to operate in uncontrolled airspace. However, the owner and user should be fully aware of responsibilities for all aspects of flight safety during such operations.
  • The remote pilot should have undergone ground/ practical training at any “DGCA” approved Flying Training Organization (FTO).
  • The theory subjects should have follow topics:
    • Basic Radio Telephony (RT) techniques, including knowledge of radio frequencies.
    • Flight planning and ATC procedures.
    • Regulations specific to area of operations.
    • Basic knowledge of principles of flight and aerodynamics for fixed wing, rotary wing and hybrid aircraft.
    • Airspace structure and airspace restrictions with knowledge of no drone zones.
    • Basic aviation meteorology.
  • The training records should be maintained by “FTO’s” that is imparting the training.
  • Copy of training records and remote pilot logbook should be maintained and available with the remote pilot.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Drone operations are rapidly expanding in various sectors (filmmaking, real estate, mining, geo sensing, construction, mining, agriculture etc.) and each sector has its specific requirements. So, in-depth knowledge of the relevant field is required to become a successful drone operator.
  • The remote pilot licence requires training for a specific period of time and other theory class that equips a licenced pilot to operate with all safety measures and will be in a position to understand the parallel operator's communication.

  • Import of drones and drone components shall be regulated by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade.
  • Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA), autonomous aircraft and model aircraft are various sub-sets of unmanned aircraft. An unmanned aircraft system (UAS) is an aircraft and its associated elements, which are operated with no pilot on board.


NOTE:
It is a punishable offence to try with fraudulent documents to get the remote pilot licence.
