Procedure

• To register as an Exporter one has to register their Organisation. Please follow the below link to know how to register a firm.

Obtaining Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) Number in person.

1. Once the registration process is complete, It is necessary to get registered with the DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade), Ministry of Commerce, Government of India.
2. DGFT provides exporter a unique IEC Number. IEC Number is a ten digits code required for the purpose of export as well as import. No exporter is allowed to export his goods abroad without IEC number.
3. An application for grant of IEC number shall be made by the authorised person of the Registered/Head Office of the proposed export firm to the nearest Regional Authority of Directorate General Foreign Trade.

5. Go to the respective office and meet the designated authority. Please obtain the application form.

7. Applicant shall complete the application attach required documents and submit it along with required application fees.
8. The submitted application will be processed by the authorities. If all are in place, application will be accepted and a receipt will be provided for the same. Keep it safe for future reference.
9. This application will be processed internally. Once the IEC code is approved, It is normally delivered to your address.

• It is advised to submit additional set of copy of the documents and get counter signed for your safety while applying with government department.
  

Through Online - Register as an Exporter Online with images

1. To register online please visit: Official website
2. In the given page, please hit “Apply for IEC” option under “Register for your IEC” on the right part of the screen to get popup.
3. Please select the “LOGIN” section. Please enter user name, password as appropriate. Complete the captcha entry as applicable and then click “Login” button.
   1. If you are a new user, Please complete the prompted details as appropriate under “REGISTER” section. Click the check box for “By registering…” option and click “Send OTP” button at the bottom.
   2. An OTP will be sent to your mobile number. Please enter the OTP at the prompted space and click the appropriate button to complete the registration process.
4. On successful login, applicant will reach the dashboard. Here select “Apply IEC” button.
5. In the resulting page please select “Start fresh application” button.
6. Applicant will reach the online applying page.
7. Please complete the sections “General Information”, “Details of Proprietor/Partner/ Director”, “Bank Information”, “Other Details (preferred sectors of operations)”, “Declaration” and “Application Summary” by filling/selecting applicable details and uploading documents as appropriate.
8. Under each section please use the “Save & Next” button to progress for the next section. Once you reach “Application Summary” section, please click “Preview IEC Application” button to get the preview of the online application.
9. If the online application is ok, come back to the applying page and click “Sign” button to process the payment.
10. Once the sign button is selected, applicant will get a popup for confirmation. Please click “Ok” button.
11. A “Sign Submission” popup prompts user to select signing method. Please click “Proceed” button under “Aadhaar e-Sign” / “Digital Signature Certificate” option as applicable for your type.
12. A popup screen will be displayed. Please select the check box for “By clicking the checkbox…” option and then click “Continue” option.
13. Please complete the e-Authentication for the type selected (“Aadhaar e-Sign” / “Digital Signature Certificate”). On successful authentication applicant will get “Document Signed Successfully” popup. Please click “OK” button to get “Proceed To Payment” button. Please select this button.#A new page with applicant and payment details will be provided. Please click “Submit” button.
14. Payment summary will be provided. Please check the details and then click “Confirm” button to reach the payment gateway page.
15. Please select the payment method and other applicable details as per your payment type.
16. After all the details are completed, please click “Pay” button at the bottom.
17. Applicant will get transaction receipt for the completion of online application submission and payment. Please keep it safe for future reference.
18. This application will be processed further. Applicant receives update from department and the code will be issued as per deliverable mode.

Required Documents

• Two copies of the application in prescribed format.
• PAN Card issued by the Income Tax department.
• One address proof.
• Two Passport Size photo.
• Cancelled cheque bearing entity’s pre-printed name or Bank certificate.
• Document evidencing payment of fee.
• Memorandum and Articles of Association.
• Bank details (Name of the bank, Account type, Account number..)
• Requisite fees either in cash or demand draft
• Covering letter on your company’s letter head for issue of new IEC code number.
• Aadhaar card
• Self-addressed envelope with required postal stamp.

• Please take above mentioned documents in original and attested copies thereof (to be submitted) at the time of applying.
• Apart from the above listed documents, authorities may ask for additional information or document. Please provide them for smooth processing.

Need for the Document

• Import-Export code is like a passport that gives the company permission to import/export goods and services from India.
• To import or export in India, IEC Code is mandatory. No person or entity shall make any Import or Export without IEC Code Number, unless specifically exempted.
