Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. If any unauthorized water connection is found, the matter can be reported to the concerned local water supply office (Public work department) as appropriate. The water supply office contact details can be obtained from the respective panchayat/municipal/municipal corporation office as appropriate.
2. Contact Link AND link1 Select “Districts” menu to choose districts from the drop-down list to reach the respective portal. In the given portal page, please select “ABOUT DISTRICT > ADMINISTRATIVE SETUP > Wards and Panchayats” OR “DIRECTORY > PUBLICUTILITIES > Municipalities” as appropriate for the contact details.
3. Please visit the respective office and report about the matter to the concerned section officer or the authority designated.
4. The authorities at the desk will record the details from the informer. The authorities may take the contact details of the informer for reward purpose, if any.
5. The details about the unauthorized water connection will be examined by the authorities as per the information reported. Depending on the suspected type of illegal connection, the authorities will finalize the inspection or investigation procedure to detect an illegal connection
6. The authorities will also check, whether the suspected customer has any bad history, suppressed accounts, people who once applied for water but did not complete the process, off-supply customers, etc.
7. The action will be taken as per the department's schedule. Usually it will be immediate.
8. The team will visit the place of the suspected unauthorized water connection to detect the unauthorized water connection.
9. Once the type of unauthorized water connection is detected, the team will take the necessary action. The team had been empowered to disconnect illegal water connection. Based on the level of the access, the official shall book the culprit on a criminal case.
10. The punishment including penalty, imprisonment, attaching the properties of the culprit under revenue recovery act will be imposed as appropriate.
11. There is no fee required for this procedure.

• The informer shall make use of the department phone number for making report of such information.

• Please report immediately about the water meter if it is not working.
• Legal usage of water ensures reduction of water shortage.
• Please provide the exact address details of the suspected unauthorized water connection culprit if possible.

Need for the Document

• Unauthorized or Illegal water connection refers to the second connection, re-connection of water pipeline without permission from the concerned board, illegal direct motor sucking and unmetered connections.
• These are considered illegal and criminal offence liable to prosecution.
• It is the duty of the citizens to report to the concerned department about anyone with an unauthorized water connection.
