Procedure

In Ethiopia, TIN plays a crucial role in adhering to tax laws, streamlining tax processes, and promoting transparency in financial dealings. If anyone forgot or lost the TIN, they shall follow the below steps to reclaim.

Apply In-Person:

  1. Those who lost their TIN shall approach the nearest ERCA branch to get the contact details of ERCA Main Office in Addis Ababa or a regional branch office where your business or residency is registered for getting or reclaiming the TIN.
  2. Please use the following Link and use the contact details to get the contact details of your nearest ERCA office.
  3. Go to the office as suits you, obtain the relevant form (If no update, then the following form will be useful DT-1001 for individuals or DT-1002 for businesses)
  4. Please complete the application form and attach the required documents as advised.
  5. The authorities will check the submitted set and guide you to complete the rest of the process.
  6. The applicant will be subjected for verification (biometric) as per requirement to prevent fraud.
  7. Once the authority completes the processing, the applicant will be provided with a proof for the submission either printed receipt or through mobile phone as per norms.
  8. The process will take up to 48 hours to complete. The appliocant will be notified as per the department’s mode.

  • Allotment letter or legal evidence of representation if applicable
  • Certificate of Incorporation bearing an RC Number

Eligibility

  • You must be doing business in Ethiopian and registered with Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority.
  • Anyone who carries out a taxable transaction is eligible to register for Tax Identification Number.


Fees

Process is free of charge.

Validity

Valid forever but applicant must file DT-1002 form to amend or update the information provided in the form.

Instructions

  • There is always a registration officer in every Tax office to attend to Taxpayers registration matters.
  • Hence, it is the prerogative of this officer to do the registration for an Individual, Enterprise or a Company under the different registration modes.
  • One has to appear in Person for replacement of Tax Identification Number to the Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority Main Office visit the offices of Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority Main Office to obtain a replacement Tax Identification Number.
