ProcedureEdit

The restaurant license is supposedly much easier to get in Uganda than the bar license, provided you are actually in for a restaurant.

  1. License or Permit for Restaurant can be obtained from Municipal Council Authority near your Location.
  2. Fill up the appropriate application form as described by the Municipal council.
  3. After filling the form proceed to pay the prescribed fee
  4. Submit the dully filled in form and attached with pay slip to the Health Officer in charge of the area in which the premises is located or nearby health inspector office whose officers shall carryout inspection of your premises.
  5. Collect your Restaurant License certificate from where your application was submitted within a day from the date the application was received at municipality in case there is no rejection.
  6. In case of simple food selling Point,you can obtain the license from the Division/Town council Town clerk at the Division/City Authority.
  7. In case of food manufacturing premises,the licensing authority shall impose a different license different from the one mentioned above.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Applicant should obtain Clearance from Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives for non-nationals.
  • For new business - original certificate of registration (Business name)
  • Certificate of incorporation for a (Company)
  • Applicant should obtain clearance from Uganda Registration Services Bureau.
  • Original municipality receipt for the previous year indicating existing business
  • Original rent and tenancy agreement from the Land lord for the new business.
  • Original trading License for the previous year for already existing business.
  • Health inspection certificate.
  • Medical Certificates of Employees
  • List Of Food Category

EligibilityEdit

Any person of 18 years carrying out business in Municipality/Division/Town/City/Kampala City Council Authority’s jurisdiction except those who are exempted under Section 8(2) of the Trade Licensing Act are eligible to obtain Trading license for a Restaurant.

FeesEdit

The founder must pay the relevant license fee at the bank, as follows:
License Fee:

  • (a) Grade I - 120,000 Ugsh
  • (b) Grade II - 90,000 Ugsh
  • (c) Grade III - 48,000 Ugsh
  • (d) Grade IV - 36,000 Ugsh

Renewal Fee:

  • (a) Grade I - 120,000 Ugsh
  • (b) Grade II - 90,000 Ugsh
  • (c) Grade III - 48,000 Ugsh
  • (d) Grade IV - 36,000 Ugsh

  • Names, Physical and Postal Address of Applicant
  • Legal Status of the Applicant
  • List and Particulars of Shareholders;
  • Certificate of Registration,
  • Certificate of Incorporation,
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association
  • Deed of Partnership,
  • Deed of Trust, as applicable
  • Information if the shareholder has ever been convicted of a criminal offence in Uganda or in any other country.
  • List and Particulars of Directors.
  • information if you have ever acquired a Licence and state the nature of the Licence, date issued and the Licence number
