ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. Start by visiting the Uganda registration service bureau Licensing Offices to make your application for the liquor license. You may also visit Plot 5 George Street, Georgian House, Kampala so as to initiate the application process.You can also visit their website on the following link Licensing portal
  2. Depending on the nature or type of your application, you will be given the application forms to complete.
  3. You should fill the required information and attach the documents to the application form.
  4. After submission of the application form, a licensing officer will visit your business premises to carry out inspections, so as to determine if your premise is suitable for the nature of the license you are applying for.
  5. The information obtained by the inspection visit, will be table down for deliberation by the directorate so as to determine also determine the fees to charge for the license and approval of the license.
    • Where the Licensing Bureau after considering the application will indicate in writing whether it objects to the grant of the license applied for.
    • Where the directorate has no objection to the application, it shall grant a license to the applicant upon payment of the prescribed fee.
  6. Pay the prescribed application fee. The fee varies depending on the nature of license you want to apply for.
  7. After making the payments, the liquor license signed and you will be advised to collect it from the dispatch office.
  8. Once you have acquired the license , display it on your business premises as the law requires

EligibilityEdit

  1. A person intending to manufacture or otherwise produce any alcoholic drink.
  2. A person intending to operate an establishment for the sale of an alcoholic drink.
  3. A person intending to import or export any alcoholic drink.

A person to obtain liquor License must fulfill the following.

  1. Must have attained the apparent age of eighteen years ;( 18years).
  2. Should have not been convicted of an offence under section 2 or 7(3)(a) of the Liquor Act within the period of two years immediately preceding the date of his or her application for the Licence;
  3. The Applicant shouldn’t have been adjudged a bankrupt and has not, at the date of his or her application, been discharged, or has entered into a form of composition with his or her creditors; or
  4. The applicant should hold a valid import or export or Liquor manufacturing Licence issued to him or her under the provisions of Part III of the Act.

FeesEdit

  • Licence fees shall be based on the number of Liquor quantities permitted to be manufactured, imported, or exported per month.

ValidityEdit

  • The license is valid for one year and is renewed thereafter

Information which might helpEdit

  • This licence authorises the licensee to sell non-spirituous liquor either wholesale or retail to be consumed either on or off premises between the hours of 12.45 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
  • It further provides that a hotel management may sell non-spirituous liquor to the residents of the hotel either in their rooms or in the residents lounge at any time.
  • An off-licence authorises the holder to sell between the hours of 7.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. non-spirituous liquor either wholesale or retail to be consumed off the premises. The off-licence is issued only to shops for, retail or wholesale trade, or for both retail and wholesale trade and that separate storage accommodation.
  • Paragraph 5 of the schedule provides that a wholesale liquor licence shall authorise the sale of non-spirituous liquor wholesale between the hours of 7.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m
  • A travelling wholesale liquor licence shall authorise the sale of liquor by wholesale between the hours of 7.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. from a vehicle by or on behalf of the holder of a wholesale liquor licence in any area in Uganda specified in the licence.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

  • No person shall keep for sale, offer for sale or sell liquor except under the authority of a license or permit to sell liquor or under the authority of a manufacturer’s license.
  • No person shall canvass for, receive or solicit orders for the sale of liquor unless the person is the holder of a license or permit to sell liquor or unless the person is the holder of a license to represent a manufacturer
