Uganda - Obtain Certificate (Licence) to import Live Fish

ProcedureEdit

  1. Importers are required to submit a written application to the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries resources outlining the following:
    • The quantity
    • The species, listing both local and complete scientific name(s)
    • Country of origin
    • Address of the importers facility
    • For permits vetted by the Fish Consultant AND / OR Research Officer. Evaluation will include:
      • Species type
      • Country of origin
      • Disease status of country in question
  2. If your application meets the above criteria, once approved and it will be forwarded to the Director of Fisheries.
  3. The Director of Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries resources will review and sign it after.
  4. The Director of Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries resources will also assign officer to clear fish.
  5. Once the fishes are clear a permit will be issued.
  6. Fish is then inspected and cleared by the officer.
  7. Prepare copies of the following documents and present it to the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries resources at the time of clearance. These documents will be placed on the file for review:
    • Airway bill showing scientific and local names and quantities
    • Invoice showing scientific and local names and quantities
    • Import permit
    • Health Certificate from a competent authority from the country of origin. The certificate MUST be written in English and no more than fifteen (15) days old
    • Documents reviewed by the Branch
  • Note 1:Issuing duty free status is based on the understanding that the fish is only to be used for brood stock purposes and not for retail.
  • Note 2:The Branch reserves the right to prohibit importation of specific species.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any person aged 18 years and above and legally residing in the country is Eligible to obtain certificate for importation of live fish.
  • Any person with importation license or permission for importing live fish products outside Uganda.
  • Any person who has the import interest and meets the above requirements and importing products that does not fall in the restricted list.

FeesEdit

Explain the fees structure which is required for obtaining the certificate/document.

ValidityEdit

A certificate issued under this institution is valid for one year and expire on 31 December every year.

InstructionsEdit

  1. Importation Permits will ONLY be issued to importers with distinct understanding that officers from the Fisheries Division will conduct all inspections and clearance services.
  2. The Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources reserves the right to stipulate the following conditions:
    • Collection of sample for testing
    • Inspection of the facility prior to and after arrival of consignment to the facility.

Required InformationEdit

  1. All requests submitted to the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources Must have the following data:
    • Quantity of fish
    • Species name local and scientific
    • Country of origin
  2. At least 3 working days prior to the arrival of the consignment a notice must be given to the Department with these information:
    • Time of arrival
    • Port of arrival
    • Airline
