ProcedureEdit

  • Goods taken out of or services provided from customs territory of Uganda and brought into an export processing zone shall be taken to have been exported from Uganda.
  • Any good taken out of or service provided from an export processing zone for use in a customs territory of Uganda shall be taken to have been imported into Uganda.
  1. For obtaining approval to take goods out of an export processing zone and bring goods into an export processing zone, the Applicant is required to get approval from the Free zone commissioner General.
  2. Applicant should approach the Uganda free zone Authority with completed filled application form.
  3. The format for form 14 and form 15 can be availed from the commissioner general’s office on visit.
    • The approval by the Commissioner General to take goods out of an export processing zone or bring goods into an export processing zone shall be in Form 15.
    • An application to take goods out of an export processing zone or bring goods into an export processing zone shall be in Form 14.
  4. Stamped paper (as advised) in the name of the Company/Establishment should be used in the process of application.
  5. The Application form shall only be signed by authorized senior executive or any other authorized company executive, and shall be duly stamped using official company stamp and sealed using official company seal.
  6. Please submit the Application form and required documents to the respective authority.
  7. After due process, it will be entered in the Authorities’ record and the applicant shall be given a registration number by the officer at Uganda free zone Authority.
  8. After registration at Uganda free zone Authority, on every occasion of submission of application for approval to take goods out of an export processing zone and bring goods into an export processing zone the Number must be mentioned on application for reference.
  9. Applicant must submit an additional set of documents, with the application for approval to take goods out of an export processing zone and bring goods into an export processing zone.
  10. The certificate of approval to take goods out of an export processing zone and bring goods into an export processing zone will be issued after signing and stamping from the commissioner general.
  11. Cost of issuing Certificate of approval will depend on the goods to be exported out of the processing zone and the goods to be brought into an export processing zone.

EligibilityEdit

Any registered or business entity free zone company that is incorporated in Uganda for the sole purpose of taking goods out of an export processing zone and bring goods into an export processing zone are eligible.

FeesEdit

  • Import licence fee USD $750
  • Export Licence Fee USD $750

This fee is broken down below:

  1. Documents preparation US$120
  2. Customs clearance and technical control US$330
  3. Ports and terminal handling US$100
  4. Inland transportation and handling US$200


ValidityEdit

As long as an exporter or importer meets requirements he/she can export/import at any time.

  • A person shall not take goods out of an export processing zone or bring goods into an export processing zone without the prior approval of the Commissioner General.
  • Goods may only be taken out of an export processing zone or brought into an export processing zone for the purposes specified in the Act under the supervision of the Commissioner General.
