Apply In- person

  1. To apply for a registration certificate for in patient private Health Unit with 21-50 beds, the applicant should visit the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council offices with an application form C in a prescribed manner specified by the City Council.Find their website on the following link
    • The Act states that every person or body that intends to open a private health unit shall apply to the Town council for the registration of in-patient health unit in the city with 21-50 beds in the Trading Centre.
  2. Then after that, the applicant is required to collect and complete the prescribed application form C, obtainable from the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council head office. The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (Licensing Board) Regulations, shall prescribes form C for the application for the license.
  3. Submit the completed form C in all respect and all the relevant documents to the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council. Any omission of the supporting documents will render the application process incomplete.
  4. Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council Licensing board shall, within 2 days of receipt of an application, investigate and prepare a detailed report in respect of the application.
  5. Pay a non- refundable License application fee of Two hundred thousand(200,000) shillings to the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (Licensing) Board.
  6. The Act provides the procedure for registration; the council may, after making such inquiry as it considers necessary, and receiving a fee determined by the council, authorize the registration of the specific health unit.
  7. The Authority shall notify the applicant, in writing, of its decision Within a period of 2 days after the afore-mentioned period, the Health committee of The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council shall and upon registration, in-Patient health unit with 21-50 beds shall be registered under the Act, and a license shall be issued as set out in Form C in the Third Schedule or may refuse to grant the application a registration license, it shall state the reasons in such notice.
  8. At the discretion of the council and subject to conditions that the council may determine, the registrar may register in-private Health Unit operated by a medical assistant, nurse or midwife, as the case may be, exclusively for the use of a body corporate of an institution but under the supervision of a registered medical practitioner.
  9. The council shall cause a new health unit to be published in the Gazette soon after registration is authorized and a license issued in respect of a health unit with the particulars of the Health unit as stated in section 30 of the Act.
  10. The registration shall be subjected to terms and conditions as the health committee of the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council deem fit. The private health Unit shall also be subjected to supervision and monitoring by the health committee of Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
  11. A license shall expire at the end of one year from the date of issue and will be subject to renewal for one year at a time.

InstructionsEdit

  • All private health units must register with Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council, and be familiar with the rules relating to the Medical practice in Uganda.
  • The Act provides that any person who contravenes any part of the Act commits an offense and is liable to a fine of not less than three hundred thousand shillings and not more than three million shillings or to imprisonment for not less than three months and not more than one year or to both.

  • Purpose of this document is to show that the clinic unit has fulfilled all the required conditions in order to provide health care services to the community and also to Regulate the practice of clinical Health units in Uganda.
  • The main role of primary health care is to provide continuous and comprehensive care to the patients.It also helps in making the patient available with the various social welfare and public health services initiated by the concerned governing bodies and other organizations.

  • The Act states that the publication of the lists in the Gazette as provided in section 19 shall be prima facie evidence that a person or health unit mentioned in the gazette at the time of publication, is duly registered under the Act.
  • The Act states that the absence of the name of a person or health unit from the relevant list means that a person or health unit is not registered under the Act.
  • The certificate of registration should be conclusive proof of a license to carry on business under the act.
