Procedure

• To obtain a death certificate, you will need to visit the Civil Registry at Registration House in Port of Spain.
• Submit all the required documents.
• Pay the necessary fee.

Required Documents

• The Medical Certificate of the Cause of Death, together with the deceased person's Birth or Marriage Certificate and National ID Card.
• The ID Card of the person registering the death.

Eligibility

A death can be registered by:

• A relative of the deceased.
• A person present at the death or responsible for arranging the funeral.

Fees

The fee to register a death is TT$25.00.

Validity

Explain the time until which the certificate/document is valid.
e.g. Birth Certificate Valid Forever

Need for the Document

A death registration must be made within five days of a death at the Registrar of Births and Deaths in the district where the death occurred, unless there is a Coroner's investigation, which may take longer.
